This reworked cotton blouse began life as a premium T.M. Lewin shirt in soft Egyptian cotton — a beautifully made piece with quality fabric worth reimagining.
The original shirt included a subtle design detail: the top button and buttonhole were stitched in red thread, while the remaining buttons were sewn in white. This contrast has been carefully preserved in the rework, adding a quiet nod to the garment’s origins.
Transformed in our Manchester studio, the blouse now features a sculpted frill collar, a softly flared frill along the front placket, and delicate cap‑frill sleeves engineered from curved offcuts for natural lift and movement.
The armholes have been reshaped for a flattering fit, finished with neat overlocking and top‑stitching so the frills sit cleanly. French‑seamed sides keep the interior refined, and the piece is completed with a hand‑sewn Mabel Green Studio label.
A sustainable, slow‑made upcycled blouse crafted from textiles that already exist — contemporary, feminine and entirely one‑of‑a‑kind.

At Mabel Green Studio, we believe in giving beautifully made pieces a considered second life. Each vintage, pre‑loved or reworked garment is chosen for its quality, craftsmanship and character — the kind of work that deserves to be preserved, not discarded.
Our philosophy ensures that garments and accessories which might otherwise be lost to time are treated with respect; we honour the materials, the makers and the stories they carry. Some pieces are carefully revived in their original form; others are thoughtfully redesigned and reimagined into contemporary silhouettes that allow the fabric to live on in a new way.
Only items that meet our standards for condition, authenticity and longevity are selected for our curated collection.
Each piece reflects our commitment to slow fashion, responsible making and the understated beauty of extending a garment’s life with intention.
